A WW2 69th Infantry Division shoulder patch presented to Michael Booker by P.F.C. Alan H. Murphey, one of the four Americans who were the first to enter and liberate Colditz Castle (Oflag IVc) on 16th April 1945.

Accompanying this patch is a photograph capturing the moment of liberation, featuring all four P.F.C.s on the terrace of Colditz Castle. The individuals in the photograph, from left to right, are P.F.C. Burrows, P.F.C. Murphey, P.F.C. Giegnas, and P.F.C. Miller, all of whom were awarded the Silver Star for their bravery in liberating Schloss Colditz Oflag IVc.

Notably, P.F.C. Alan H. Murphey received the formal surrender from German Hauptmann Reinhold Eggers in the castle's courtyard, marking a significant moment in history. This lot also includes a picture of P.F.C. Alan H. Murphey (on the left) taken in Altenhain in April 1945.
