The original registration photograph of Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader from Oflag X-C, with notable paper clip rust mark on the rear. This lot also comes with a black and white picture of his artificial legs dropped by parachute.
Bader, a legendary figure in aviation history, lost both of his legs in a flying accident prior to World War II. Despite this significant challenge, he went on to become a highly skilled pilot, demonstrating extraordinary determination and resilience. His artificial legs were specifically designed to allow him to continue flying.
Included in this collection is a rare commemorative first-day cover celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Britain dated 1965, which is signed by Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader himself. Bader's impressive accolades include CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, DL, FRAeS.
