An original German record relating to Flight Lieutenant Leslie James Edward Goldfinch (led a team to design and build the ‘Colditz Cock’ glider).

This record shows incoming/outgoing mail via letter and card between various addresses back home in England from Colditz Oflag IVc between 1944 and 1945.

This file also includes Goldfinch's original prisoner of war photograph attached as prisoner 301 from Oflag Vb in the Baden-Württemberg area. Flight Lieutenant Leslie Goldfinch flew Sunderlands during the evacuation of Greece in 1941, and during one flight, while attempting to land in the dark, the Sunderland flying boat hit an underwater object and sank. Goldfinch was one of four survivors from the crew of 10 and was badly injured. He was taken to a military hospital and eventually captured by the Germans.
