A collection of three letters written by Sergeant George Franklin Booth (561012) of 107 Squadron, who flew the Blenheim IV N6240, to his Mother Mrs B. A. Booth from various locations including potentially one of the first letters home from a British airman during WW2 informing her that he is safe and sound in early September 1939 (exact date unknown).
The second letter is written from the same location as the first in Wesermunde, Lehe (Bremerhaven), while the third letter is written from the transit camp Dulag Luft, which was for R.A.F. personnel situated in Oberursel (28th December 1940). The third letter hopes his wife is keeping well and that he is thinking of what books he wishes her to send him in captivity.
This lot also comes with a typed piece of text explaining about Dulag Luft.
Sergeant Booth was shot down on just the second day of the war, on 4th September 1939 in Wilhelmshaven harbour, killing the Pilot, Sgt Albert S. Prince. Booth along with the Blenheim Gunner AC1 Laurence J. Slattery (548555) were taken prisoners of war and are arguably among the first two British airmen to be taken POWs in WW2.
